For the month of April, I will be blogging every day (minus every Sunday but the 1st) about Interstitial Cystitis for The A to Z Blogging Challenge. Each day I will talk about a subject dealing with IC and my life living with it.
Today is H and I'm talking about Hunner's Ulcers.
Hunner’s ulcers are a subtype of interstitial cystitis. They aren’t ulcers in the usual sense (not like that makes them less sucky.) They’re distinctive areas of inflammation on the bladder wall. Their diagnosis often clinches the IC diagnosis, but this form doesn’t affect everyone Only 5-10% of patients get these ulcers. A cystoscopy is how they are diagnosed. I think I got lucky here. Otherwise, I might be in a lot more pain. But whenever someone asks me what IC is, the easiest answer is to say “ulcers”. That usually gets me a sympathetic cringe.
